I should get a Christmas icon...
Dec. 26th, 2010 06:59 pmSo, family Christmas was warm and fuzzy as usual- my family went over to my grandparents' after opening stockings, and my cousins
bibliothekara and her brother (livejournal-less as far as I know) were there, and their mom and other grandparents came over in the afternoon, and we had the Required Debate Over the Optimum Passing Speed of Presents, and spawned a couple of new quotes: "It's candy disguised as a shirt!", which needs no explanation, and "EXPONENTIAL BISCUITS!!!", which does. We usually make crescent rolls out of a can, but this year my grandfather got buttermilk biscuits out of a can instead, so
bibliothekara and I got the dough out of the can and started dividing out the biscuits. And dividing... and dividing.... The biscuits were supposed to be flaky and layered, but we didn't realize it, so we saw the boundary between layers in one biscuit and thought that meant it was supposed to be two, so by the time we thought to check the package to see how many biscuits it was supposed to make, some of the biscuits were in thirds or quarters, and we had to stick them back together.
I think I've been chattering about my games too much- my grandparents gave me a pair of books called The Girl's Guide to Vampires and How to be a Vampire, which look amusing (one of them- forget which, I haven't read them yet- had a section titled "How to tell if your boyfriend is a vampire), and my mom gave me a pink folding hairbrush/mirror specifically for Changeling. I'm not sure it belongs on my toolbelt, but it'll be nice to have with me in case I forget to braid my hair beforehand. Normally I'm more careful about not talking too much about my current 'preferred interest', but this one snuck by me because it's not a book series/whatever like they usually are, so I didn't recognize it until a few weeks ago, and kept telling my mom long stories over the phone about everything that happened in the last game. Sigh. Social skills: I can usually has, but it's not guaranteed and it actually is work. I think this is why it's so much easier for me to get into Cassie's head than Iris's: Iris not trying is me trying my hardest, whereas Cassie trying is me not trying that much.
My brother's recently started playing D&D and Dark Heresy at our high school's new Tabletop Games club, (which started up after I graduated, growf) so I got him a d20 and a pair of matching d10s (10s and 1s place, not identical), which I think he liked, although it's hard to tell sometimes with him. I had a bit of a mishap with everyone else's presents, though- I carefully packed the cross-stitch I've been working on all semester (well, with a month-long break for my River vest), but completely forgot that they're supposed to be cross-stitch ornaments and the little ornament frames they're meant to go in were still in my desk drawer. So everyone will be getting their Christmas presents in mid-January. Oh well. I have extra cross-stitch cloth now, as a present from my mom from our Christmas Eve run to A C Moore's to see if they had any tiny frames, but I'm not sure I want to do these ornaments again next year, given that they take at least twice as long as the crochet ornaments I made two years ago. I have a bunch of craft projects still to do before ConBust, anyway, so no sense starting to plan now.
In random other news, it's snowing here, and has been all day, but I didn't go out and play in it. The Doctor Who Christmas special was awesome, especially watching it with my cousin. She gave me a pink fleece hat with giant rabbit ears, which Cassie might wear if I can figure out how the wires are attached to her head, and which I-personally will definitely be wearing everywhere. My mom also gave me a hat, which is tweedish and big enough that I can keep my hair under it for playing Julian. I should probably organize the Changeling Sledding Expedition over the forums rather than email, so that people I don't think of can join in. This is nothing like a conclusion, but this is my livejournal, not an essay, so I don't care.
